Wordle with 4, 5, 6 or 7 letters: which word length to play?
Wordly team · Roghan Games · October 19, 2026
Wordly comes in four word sizes, and each one plays differently. Instead of just saying 4 is “easy” and 7 is “hard”, we looked at the numbers in our lists to see what really changes.
The four sizes in numbers
| Length | Possible answers | Accepted guesses | With a repeated letter | Vowels per word |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | 1,517 | 7,188 | 19% | 1.4 |
| 5 | 3,066 | 15,940 | 33% | 1.7 |
| 6 | 3,832 | 29,907 | 50% | 2.2 |
| 7 | 3,600 | 42,032 | 67% | 2.6 |
How to choose
- 4 letters: Quick games and few clues per guess. Great for training short vocabulary and for a two-minute break, but every wrong letter hurts a lot.
- 5 letters: The classic size: a balance of clues and difficulty. It is the best starting point and the easiest to compare with friends.
- 6 letters: More room for common endings and patterns. It asks you to think about vowel positions, but rewards you once you have found the consonants.
- 7 letters: Long words, many with prefixes and suffixes. They give more clues per guess, and the challenge is to spot the root and fill in the rest.
A suggested routine
- Start the day with the 5-letter challenge, which is the one most of your friends play.
- Use 4-letter endless mode to warm up when you are short on time.
- When 5 gets easy, move up to 6 and 7 to train ending patterns.
Each size keeps its own statistics, so you can switch freely without losing your progress.
Which length fits your moment
Choosing the right length depends on how much time you have and what kind of challenge you want. Use these scenarios as a guide.
- You have two minutes: play the 4-letter one. It tends to be quick, great for a short break and for keeping the day's streak.
- You want the classic challenge: play the 5-letter one, the most common balance between clues and difficulty, and the easiest to compare with friends.
- You like thinking in patterns: try 6 letters. It asks for attention to vowel positions and rewards you once you have found the consonants.
- You want vocabulary and a longer puzzle: go for 7 letters, with longer words, many with prefixes and suffixes.
- You want to practice with no pressure: use endless mode at any length, without touching your daily streak.
Common mistakes
- Changing length to avoid difficulty. Each length has its own statistics, and training one for a while usually pays off more.
- Moving up too early. Master 5 letters before going on to 6 and 7.
- Assuming short is always easier. 4-letter words give fewer clues per guess.
- Mixing endless and daily mode. They have separate statistics, and only the daily counts for the streak.
Practice plan for this week
- Stay five days on 5 letters only and note how many guesses you need.
- Spend two days on 4 letters and compare the average.
- Try 6 letters and notice that the clues are spread out more.
- Set your favorite length and use the others as variety.
Frequently asked questions about lengths
- Can I play every length on the same day?
- Yes. Each length has its own word of the day and its own statistics. Many players play all four as a routine of a few minutes.
- Which length is the hardest?
- It depends on the player. Short words give fewer clues per guess, and long words have more letters to find. Each length has its own kind of difficulty.
- Are the statistics separate by length?
- Yes. Each length keeps its own games, wins and streaks, and you can see everything on the profile page.
- Does endless mode count toward the streak?
- No. The streak only counts daily challenges. Endless mode has its own statistics and is for practicing freely.
