Data and tips for 4-letter words

Wordly's 4-letter list has 7,188 words accepted as guesses and 1,517 that can be the answer of the day. The letters that show up most in the answers are E (38%), A (36%), S (30%), O (27%), T (23%), L (22%), with the percentage of answers containing each one in parentheses. About 19% of the answers repeat at least one letter. The most common first letters are S, B, C and the most common last letters are E, S, T. Words that test many frequent letters at once make good openers, such as EAST, EATS, SEAT.

With only 4 letters there are few clues per guess, so every yellow letter counts. Try a word with two different vowels early and don't spend guesses on rare letters.
